36 x 24 x 1.5" Deep Canvas
Thank you for visiting my art here on my blog. I am grateful to you and am blessed to be able to share my work here.
I want to show you how I create a painting from start to finish. I love the process and thought I'd share it! It's a process that has taken over 7 years to create.
When I first begin a painting I usually know the subject matter I'd like to create.
I know the style.
I know the color scheme.
Everything else in between is the part where the brain and the imagination take over.
Composition is key for me.
I don't do a paper sketch first.
I sketch the basic outline of the composition as shown below.
I then block in color areas.
The painting starts to take on a life of its own.
If I'm happy with the progress, I keep painting. If not, I stop and walk away for a while to give my eyes a rest.
In the meantime, I am trying to problem solve what I want the painting to feel like.
When I go back to the painting, I just try to simplify my composition because it's usually the fact that I have made it more complicated than it needs to be.
When I create a painting, it usually takes me 3 days to complete. This means sittings of at least 90 minutes 3 times a day until it's done.
I am not one to sit hours and hours. My mind is really working on the mix between color, composition, feeling, and joy that the art brings.
I always know when the painting is done. I just look at it and know...OK it's complete...no more paint! I love that part. It's kind of a 6th sense I feel.
